On Monday, February 16, 2026, the premises of our Association were like a hive of activity, a large number of members, 25 of them, participated in the work of the culinary section.
The atmosphere was cheerful, everyone was talking, laughing and toasting with a welcome drink, homemade brandy and wine. Bernarda gave an introductory speech and introduced us to what Carnival is, what the customs are and what is usually prepared for the meal on that occasion. She introduced the workshop leaders: Jasna Kelečević, Ksenija Urdih and Mladen Bjelić. Our very active member Jasna prepared an excellent cabbage soup at home and served it with toasted bread and sour cream. Of course, anyone who wanted could have the soup with excellent homemade bread, which Mladen regularly prepares for us. After tasting savory dishes, as is customary, we need something sweet. During the carnival, these are traditional donuts that Ksenija prepared. She put a lot of effort and love into the preparation and that is why the donuts were so delicious and we ate them all with gusto. But that was not the end of our feast, because Bernarda brought the prepared muffins and they were baked while the tasting was going on. The wonderful smell of muffins spread throughout the association and at the right moment the warm, fragrant, golden-yellow buhtles were on the table. Of course we could not resist and we ate them all.
Our consul, Zvone Žigon with his wife Irena, also joined us and enjoyed the tasting. He gave us a great idea to make masks for next year's carnival and enjoy carnival gatherings, of course with the inevitable donuts.
