20 – 21 June 2015, Šentvid pri Stični

Under the motto of “It is really nice in the country” the 46th Gathering of Choirs took place in Šentvid pri Stični.

Over 100 choirs and more than 1500 singers took part at the Gathering coming from Slovenia, Italy, Austria, BiH, Serbia and Croatia, countries in which there exist Slovenian associations nourishing the tradition of choir singing.
The Gathering was opened by Minister of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia Julija Bizjak Mlakar, MSc. In her speech she stressed the importance of the cultural event stating that the Ministry would continue to support such cultural event recognisable in Slovenia and wider as preserving the tradition of choir singing.
In his speech, Mr. Jernej Lampret, president of the Gathering stressed the participation of Slovenian associations outside Slovenia preserving culture and language of Slovenian people, wherever they live and work.
The first evening of the Gathering is reserved for Slovenian choirs outside Slovenia.
The hall of Elementary School “Ferdo Vesel” was full and the audience and guests enjoyed the performance of good choir singing of 11 choirs from 5 countries outside Slovenia.
Our choir “Davorin Jenko” with conductor Vanja Topić, MSc, performed the thirteenth time at the Gathering and very successfully sang three songs – two Slovenian and one Serbian old-city song.
Judging by the number of people congratulating us and a strong applause received, one can easily conclude that the performance was very successful and recognised, fully justifying our performance at such a significant event.
Eleven choirs and hosts continued to socialise along with fireworks, abundant food and drinks.
On the second day of the event our choir sang together with many other Slovenian choirs in line with plan and programme of already prepared songs of Slovenian composers.
Conductor Igor Švara again was recognisable for his conducting of all choirs performing at the event.
Joyful trip and good performance is the reason of great satisfaction of our conductor and members of the choir which makes us especially inspired to work better and have more successful performances in the forthcoming period.
