The Association Triglav took part at the traditional "Gathering in my country" this year as well. This event has been organised by the Slovenian Emigrants’ Society for a number of years.
Our choir Davorin Jenko participated in the programme and was accompanied by instrumental undersong and singer Aleksandra Bilanović. All those who participated in the cultural programme expressed their strong desire to preserve Slovenian culture, language and customs. We are proud of our representatives who received a big applause by the audience.
We were particularly honoured to see President of the Republic of Slovenia Danilo Türk, PhD, President of the Slovenian Emigrants’ Society Sergej Pelhan and Mayor of Nova Gorica Mirko Brulc in attendance. President Türk gave a brief welcoming speech commending us for our work and willingness to preserve national identity.
Following the event, President Danilo Türk held a reception for the representatives of the cultural groups. Our Association was presented by President, Mrs. Marija Grbić and vocal soloist Aleksandra Bilanović, who presented the President with the book “From Ancestors to Descendants: Slovenians in Slatina and Banja Luka, 1923 – 2008”.
